CHARACTER SUMMARY
Lil C is an alien called a Ventrexian, and comes from a rough-and-tumble sci-fi future, part of a ragtag crew of criminals, outcasts, and oddballs, who have been drawn together against an evil interplanetary dictator, Lord Commander, and the cosmic evils he's allied with. His crew has tried to stop the threat of "Final Space," the very last realm of existence where time and space end, the place where the evil eldritch giants, the Titans, and a giant cosmic Big Bad named Invictus dwell.
The group has engaged in heists, fire fights, and prison break outs a-plenty in their quest to save their dimension from the threats of Final Space, suffering many pyrrhic victories along the way.
Little Cato is a feisty and mostly fearless teenager. High energy, often struggling between hope and cynicism, he can vacillate between aggro, sarcastic, or sweet and kind. Underneath this, however, is a deep vein of sadness and hidden trauma. He's dealt with a long line of tragedies, starting with being imprisoned as a hostage for 3 years by Lord Commander, multiple incidences of somehow losing his father, losing friends, and being trapped alone in a pocket dimension for 60 years until he went insane.
SUITABILITY
⌲ How do you expect your character to respond to the stress, unfamiliarity, and horror of the setting?
Little Cato is used to an extremely horrifying and high stress environment back home, where he's dealt with abuse, imprisonment, endless amounts of death, grief, cosmic horrors, and even having to kill zombie versions of his own adopted father. He'll be extremely stressed in the setting but is used to high stress environments that are about as equally stressful and horrifying - if not more so, given he sometimes deals with cosmic nightmares that can crush whole planets or that have to be imprisoned with black holes. Compared to characters that aren't used to it he'll likely be one of the cooler heads and incredibly capable for his age.
⌲ What do you hope to do with your character long-term?
I'd like to have the kid McFreakin' lose it but in a way that's healthy for him. At this point, he's spent a huge portion of his life dealing with an unending stream of bullshit with barely any break, even having to live alone for 60 years until he went insane, a situation that simply caused a state of hallucinatory delusion and a fugue of emotional pain rather than helping him mature or process anything.
He tends to deep six as much trauma as he can but something's gotta give. The times he's dealt with his emotions and cried have been healthy for him and allowed him to genuinely process and move on, but he's only done it for a few situations. He hasn't really sat down and processed Lord Commander's treatment of him, the sheer horror of his situation back home, or his time alone in the time shard.
Sometimes you have to break down a little to build yourself back up.
⌲ If you're giving your character NERFs, how will they deal with the implants?
He'll be pretty comfortable with them, thinking they're cool. The kid won't be too jazzed at the impingement on his bodily autonomy but will be super psyched to be a living weapon, as he has a tendency towards violence and aggression at times, in true cat-like fashion. He'll just wish he'd had a chance to choose it and be pissed it was chosen for him.
He will, however, be an idiot and keep risking overuse effects, though he'll be smart enough to dial it back before hitting the long-term ones.
⌲ Does your character currently have the mentality and skills that would allow them to adapt and survive? If your character doesn't, do you think they'd have the capacity to learn quickly?
Yes, the kid is used to extreme stress and fear, including dealing with straight up horror and even cosmic horror scenarios. While I want him to get broken down a little, he'll be able to push through any negative states to stay competent in fights through sheer force of will, regardless of his mental state. He's extremely good at picking himself up off the mat in ways a survival horror protag often needs to do.
He's also absolutely hypercompetent, not just for his age but for a sci-fi protag in general. He's an extremely skilled fighter with weapons and as a hand-to-hand combatant, an incredible shot with a gun (even nailing head shots while flipping around a fight upside down), a skilled hacker, an extremely sharp pilot, and a solid engineer. He's very strong (at least for his age) and extremely athletic and acrobatic.
⌲If they're not used to cooperating with others, will they be able to adapt to cooperating with the group?
He's used to working with a crew in dangerous and high stress situations and will be extremely cooperative, though there may have to be an occasion here and there where someone with more sense has to scruff him before he does something risky to himself. Still, for the most part he's good at coordinating with other people, watching their backs, and collaborative problem-solving. Alongside trying to trouble-shoot immediate issues, he's very often seen trying to figure out how to solve long-term problems with his crew.
⌲ If your character is aged 12-15, do they have skills, resilience, and experience from their canon setting that would allow them to survive without too much reliance on others? Can they realistically keep up with the adults?
Yes, he regularly keeps up with adults in his canon, on a crew that is all largely pretty competent, where everyone is a strong combatant. His situation back home has been bad enough that there's a lot he was forced to jump into with the adults and they couldn't really shield him from much of it due to threats to their lives and the universe. He's got lots of sci-fi canon skills, is well-trained to fight by his father. He's also resilient to an insane degree considering the trauma congo line that is his life, somehow scraping together sanity despite absolutely horrific situations, including three years of imprisonment and abuse.
⌲ Given this is a gritty sci-fi setting where killing is common in the genre, and there are OOC communication, permissions, and opt-out options to avoid it happening in a thread with your character, do you feel your character would be unplayable if others in the group killed sentient enemies, even if your character isn't present for it?
I'm OOCly fine with it when working with permissions and all that. ICly, he's pretty comfortable with killing and unless someone is killing total innocents, if it's kept to killing people attacking the group, he'll be fine with it. Even then there's ways to avoid him being present.
Athleticism: Little Cato's strength, senses, and acrobatics will be dialed back away from alien, but he's definitely close to comic book badass normal levels of human acrobatics. He's seen in canon casually flipping around during firefights, clinging to surfaces with his claws, and using his prehensile tail to dangle upside down. He'll still have these acrobatic abilities at the highest human extremes, and is just generally extremely athletic. He was even the planetary youth champion of a sport that involves flipping around and trying not to get dismembered.
Combat: Little Cato has been heavily trained in hand to hand almost since he could walk, and is a crack shot with a gun, able to pick off head shots while flipping upside down in the air. Some previews from the upcoming graphic novel seem to imply he has experience with using a sword as well, though I'm handwaving he's less good at bladed weapons.
Hacking/Engineering: He's a fantastic hacker, using the gauntlet on his armband to wirelessly hack nearby computers. Without his gauntlet, he'll find handheld computers to do this in the game setting. He's moderately good at some basic engineering and ship maintenance.
Personal Belonging: His helmet, which his Enki suit will morph his Enki suit's helmet around and provide air to. It won't have the ability to spring a spacesuit with air supply, won't really offer much in the way of extra protection. It's more just sentimental.
