Oh my God - intruders! Ooh, I'm gonna get you guys! I'm gonna get you guys so good! BACKGROUNDCharacter Wiki Detailed History Lil C is from a rough and tumble sci-fi future, part of a ragtag crew of criminals, outcasts, and oddballs, who have been drawn together against an evil interplanetary dictator, Lord Commander, and the cosmic evils he's allied with. Little Cato and his father Avocato, a bounty hunter and former general of Lord Commander, were drawn together with petty criminal Gary Goodspeed, former Infinity Guard Quinn Ergon, and several others, as they've tried to stop the threat of "Final Space," the very last realm of existence where time and space end, the place where the evil eldritch giants, the Titans, and a giant cosmic Big Bad named Invictus dwell. The group has engaged in heists, fire fights, and prison break outs a-plenty in their quest to save their dimension from the threats of Final Space, suffering many pyrrhic victories along the way. Little Cato has dealt with a long line of tragedies, starting with being imprisoned as a hostage for 3 years by Lord Commander, multiple incidences of somehow losing his father, and being trapped alone in a pocket dimension for 60 years. Recently the crew failed in their quest to keep Invictus and the Titans out of normal space, losing several crew members in various ways, from death to capture to one of them going insane with grief. PERSONALITYResilience: Tremendously resilient, Cato has faced untold tragedy and loss. He also still has 60 years' worth of memories from being stuck alone in a shard of frozen time, though his isolation and the reversion back to his 14 year old body and brain means he hasn't matured that much - and the repression of those memories has extra ensured that. The knowledge of Avocato's lies about his parenthood has also has devastated Little Cato and made him question his entire reality, damaging his sense of trust in others. Yet he's still going, leaning on a variety of coping mechanisms to keep soldiering on, talking about things in a healthy way or repressing them as needed. His life is one of constant fights to survive but when he has the time he does often find healthy ways to cope. Even when he doesn't successfully cope, he picks himself up and keeps going by sheer force of will. Cynical/Hopeful: Little Cato is sometimes cynical, but not in a bitter way. He expects the worst to happen because it so often does, and stands there poised, ready to face it. But in recent times, he has tried to be more hopeful and is trying to accept more levity in his life, like silly games with his adoptive dad Gary Goodspeed. Nowadays, he often vacillates evenly between some innate cynicism and the conscious effort to hope. Courageous: Fearless to such a degree he can be extremely impulsive, he also toughs it out to do things even when he's struggling with fear. And he does get afraid. Until the recent issues with Avocato, he'd reached out to either father when he was scared, seeking comfort in situations the group didn't think they'd escape from alive. When he's frightened, he finds people to lean on and still pushes through it. Does the Dew: Little Cato is a tremendously high energy, bouncy, rambunctious teen, who enjoys activities like fighting, fast piloting, and aggressive sports. While he can quiet down for activities like reading engineering manuals, he tends to do these quieter things as a way of just being a responsible crew member. When it comes to fun, it's all high octane, high energy daring. Jumping from an orbital platform and free-falling to a planet below, before engaging boot rockets last minute, sounds like his idea of a good time. Feistiness: Little Cato is a little fighter, with a lot of aggressive energy when facing down bad guys. He can at times basically be the "father, I crave violence" cat meme. This was true even after he'd been imprisoned for three years by the Lord Commander from the ages of 11 to 14. Despite being trapped that long, his spirit hadn't broken - he still sometimes lunged at his warden. Even if something bad happens, he wants to go in guns blazing the second he drags himself off the mat. Kindness/Gentleness: Despite his feisty nature, he is a genuinely sweet, gentle, and loving kid to the people he cares about. He has showered both of his fathers with affection as their son, and before she broke bad and turned against his crew, he was a gentle friend to the traumatized Ash. Despite not getting along with his friend Fox initially due to their species' mutual antipathy, it was Little Cato that gave a tearful eulogy for his friend later on, thanking him for teaching him someone can be a warrior without being a killer - a lesson he's still learning. After growing up inured to death and violence - and despite being very comfortable with killing - he's slowly coming to realize there are other, kinder ways to be. It's just sometimes he just needs reminding. POWERS AND ABILITIESCanon Powers: Alien Physiology: Ventrexians are slightly stronger than humans (though Little Cato, being pretty small, hasn't benefited much from this yet), slightly more durable, and have better agility and reflexes allowing them to do acrobatics with ease. Little Cato has been seen casually flipping around during firefights, clinging to surfaces with his claws, and using his prehensile tail to dangle upside down. They have a stronger instinct for danger, picking up subtle clues from the environment or subtle behavioral cues of hostility: when this happens, they have a "danger gland" in their neck that throbs in warning. While not supernatural in nature, this warning sense can be very accurate. Like Earth cats, they can see in the dark, have good hearing, and a strong sense of smell. Their sense of smell is strong enough to identify the species of someone who's been in a room. They also have sharp teeth and claws. While more prone to use his gun than his claws, Cato has sometimes been seen biting enemies - or just people that annoy him. Skills: Little Cato has been heavily trained in hand to hand almost since he could walk, and is a crack shot with a gun, able to pick off head shots while flipping upside down in the air. Some previews from the upcoming graphic novel seem to imply he has experience with using a sword as well, though I'm handwaving he's less good at bladed weapons. He's a fantastic hacker, using the gauntlet on his armband to wirelessly hack nearby computers, and moderately good at some basic engineering and ship maintenance. He's an excellent pilot for his age. Alongside his combat skills, he's also a skilled athlete, the Ventrexian elite junior champion of Thimbles - a sport that involves scoring points by dismembering limbs. Combined with his Ventrexian agility, and general athleticism, he's extremely skilled at using his rocket boots to maneuver around a fight, with an excellent command of using 3D space to attack. He and his father Avocato have practiced different flying attacks, including their father-son "death pounce." ![[community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/community.png){kind=small} longestnight Powers: He'll have the baseline myth abilities, as well as three game powers: - Equipment recall: If separated from his space suit equipment (Which is retractable) or his gun, he can recall it to him Jedi style, though he can't do it if it's secured to something, locked in something/blocked by walls, or magic is blocking it. There's also a distance limit. - enhanced speed and agility: adding to what he already has, not really better than a spider-person level. - improved claws: sharp enough to cut into stone or even metal, strong enough he can use them to climb walls. - slightly enhanced strength: but closer to just a really strong adult than anything super. This power will take the longest to come in. PERMISSIONS[OOC] Backtagging: Yes Threadhopping: Yes, just ask for logs. Jump in freely on network. Fourthwalling: Yes but unlikely any canon recognizes Final Space as a canon lol. Subjects That Bother Me: Sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence. I have different feelings about it whether it shows up in dialogue vs introspection, etc etc. I don't want SA or DV to ever happen in front of Little Cato, but mention in the narrative or dialogue, such as a character thinking/talking about their past is something we can discuss. OOCly he is from a somewhat rough and tumblr grimy sci fi universe, and while he hasn't had personal experience with every way that people can be hurt by someone else, it just... wouldn't shock him. I just would want ooc warning and to figure out the terms. For child abuse, I'm comfortable with it coming up in narrative, dialogue, or even as an action in a thread but just need to pre-discuss. Little Cato can handle dealing with it, as he was verbally and physically abused by the Lord Commander and his lackey Viro during the three years he was the Lord Commander's prisoner. If I'm not the one bringing it up in a thread I just need it to not hit me by surprise. [IC] Hugging this character: Yes, but not suggested if done by surprise or doesn't like your character. He might straight up bite. Flirting with this character: Only if it's PG stuff from a teen of the same age. Fighting with this character: Yes. He loves to fight and fights incredibly dirty. It'd have to be a guy as word of God is that Little Cato is gay. anaplasia permissions: here EXTRAPOSSESSIONS - Currently not with him in anaplasia1 X Blaster and holster: Little Cato is the "Father I crave violence" cat meme and usually has his blaster with him at all times. The blaster is an proton based weapon and never runs out of ammo, though sometimes it needs time to recharge. He has to a loooot of shooting for that to happen, though. 1 X Space suit: His space suit is retractable, able to cover his body with a suit and helmet with a small tap. It allows him to survive in the vacuum of space, though the maximum survival time is likely no more than a day or two. 1 X Pair of rocket boots: exactly what it says on the tin.
